For all my Disney fans, I hope you get my reference in the subject
title, because the beginning of the Star Tours ride is pretty much the
perfect definition of the first day. Thrilling, and then all of the
sudden BAM you're in a whole new world.
First of all- this work is SO JOYOUS!!! I've never been happier in my
life, and I think it's because it isn't mine right now, its God's. My
companion, Sister Aceves, is awesome! She doesn't really like hanging
with girls and isn't super emotional too- its a really good
companionship and we thank God every day for our unity. Our district
is awesome! I'm the only sister in the whole MTC going to my mission,
but I've gotten close with the elders headed to NM-FARM! The elders in
our district are hilarious!!!!! We laugh soooooo much!
I am trying to comprehend so much and remember so many basic things,
my brain is dead by the end of the day. Last night at about 7, we had
two hours left in our day and still had to teach and prepare a lesson,
after already had done that twice, in addition to 6 hours of class. We
were mentally exhausted. So, we turned to God and said a prayer asking
for strength. Sister Aceves and I were immediately given the strength
we needed to finish out of lessons and studies. I have learned already
that I cannot do this without the spirit of God with me! It is an
amazing feeling to be so close to the spirit.
We have two "investigators", Jen and Jasmine. We pray for them and
teach specific to their needs, as you would with any other
investigator. However, they are volunteers at the MTC and we aren't
told if they are members or not. It's kinda weird, but you get the
hang of it and really develop a love for these "investigators", even
though they probably are already members.
In a video devotional we watched from Elder Bernard, he said, "Where
the natural man would turn inward, Christ turns outward." I've been
trying to apply this. Each time I realize another thing I need to work
on, I try to push that aside and love. Love my companion more. Love my
investigators more. Love the words I'm teaching more. Love God more. I
have found in my six days of experience that when I focus on loving
everything and everyone, the spirit of God can be with me and I can be
confident that I am doing the work HE needs me to do.
I love you all!
Sister Sheppard
